Tradie insurance solutions

Protect yourself with general liability insurance, tools insurance, and cover for theft or damage to your work vehicle.

Cover we can arrange for tradies

Public liability insurance

If you accidentally injure or damage the property of a client or third party, you may be liable to compensate them for their loss – and their legal costs. Public liability insurance covers you and your business for those costs, up to the liability limit you choose.

Tools, stock and equipment cover

A tradie’s tools are crucial. Damaged, lost, or stolen tools are costly to replace. Cover your tools for replacement or repair in case you lose them.

Business vehicle insurance

Your vehicle is so important. Getting you from job to job, picking up supplies, and it may well be a home for your tools too. Marsh can arrange business vehicle cover tailored to your needs.

Why should you consider tradies insurance?

Insurance can protect you from financial loss. So whether you’re an electrician, plumber, builder, chippy, or other tradie, having insurance is a smart move.

This tradie insurance solution means you’re not paying out of your own pocket if you (or even your subbies), cause damage or injury to other people or property at your worksite. If you find yourself financially liable for legal fees or reparation, it’s a relief to have insurance cover to help meet costs that could otherwise cripple your business.

You can get tools insurance and cover for your vehicle too. What would happen if your tools or vehicle are stolen from a site, or your vehicle is damaged (especially with your tools inside)? They’re expensive to replace. Insurance can help meet the cost of a replacement vehicle or tools, or damage repair.

Protect yourself, your clients and your livelihood and help your business grow without setbacks.

They cover different risks. Public liability insurance covers you against injury to people and property that you may be liable for. Professional indemnity insurance (PI) covers you should you give advice or design services to clients, and they suffer a financial loss because of that advice. They may claim a breach of professional duty by you and claim their loss from you. PI helps meet the costs of that claim, and your legal costs in doing so.

Good question. Yes, it can, but it depends on the circumstances. Please tell us when you arrange cover if you have sub-contractors working for you.

We strongly recommend however, any subbies have their own insurance cover.

Why? Because if a subcontractor is negligent and leaves their tools out, causing a third party to trip and injure themselves, then this claim may need to be made under the subcontractor’s policy, not yours.

From a public liability perspective, having subcontractors arrange their own insurance is a better option for your business.

Yes, we can tailor your insurance for your business, so you have the right limits for the size of your business, and the right type of cover. We’ll advise you on that; the more you can tell us about your business, the more help we can offer.

For example, if you offer advice to your clients, we should include Professional indemnity insurance for you. As your business grows, we can adjust your public liability insurance, tools and equipment cover, and your vehicle insurance so you are adequately covered.

From one claim to another, claims can be very different.

If you have a claim, the best thing to do is to notify us as soon as the incident happens. To do this, contact your broker or call us on 0800 376 304, and we will guide you through the steps.

We will also send you a claims form which explains the process. We’re here to help.

Yes. Your certificate of currency is proof that you have a current insurance policy, and it may be required if you’re working at certain sites. Once your policy is in place, we can send you a valid certificate of currency.
